Adirondack Is Back - The Hottest New (Old) Trend In Outdoor Furniture!

It's not a huge surprise that a vintage American design like the Adirondack Chair has made a huge come back in just the last couple of years. This trend is spreading quickly as people across the country are taking the opportunity to spend more time kicking back and relaxing in their carefully designed outside living area. I myself remember as a 6 year old kid, sinking completely into one of these familiar old chairs, my feet dangling barely over the edge, while my grandpa and I peeled the apples we picked and talked about the apple pie topped with quickly melting ice cream that we just knew my grandma would have just for us after we had dinner. With cool lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was warm and peaceful. When Grandpa told stories, time flew by. It is really no mystery why we like to unwind and relax outside, whether that's out on the patio, in your garden area, on the deck, or out on the porch where you can watch the neighborhood go by. There may not be a better way to do that than to sit back in a high backed, deep seated, comfortable Adirondack chair and leave your cares behind.

So where did this little bit of American culture come from? Well, the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This style was trendy at the many resorts and mountain retreats that were so prominent back in those days. By the time 1940 came around adirondack was everywhere. The furniture style began to spread south and was heading west quickly. As the Adirondack furniture design grew in popularity, and found its way around the country, influences regionally began showing up. The design was given to various styles of outdoor furniture including; porch swings, rocking chairs, benches, gliders, and thanks to our Canadian neighbors, a piece they call the "tete a tete" which means literally; "head to head". This charming little design combines two chairs and a table in between them constructed as one piece. What a perfect way to spend a lazy Summer day with somebody you love!

You will be pleased and amazed to find a great variety of Adirondack furniture available today. Not only has the original furniture design stood the winds of time, but the whole Adirondack craze has exploded with a delightful supply of styles, material, finishes, and colors. Classic Adirondack style furniture is built out of wood that's known for resisting deterioration and insects including cypress, oak, white or red cedar, or cherry. The wood that is selected varies by location as do individual designs. A popular new option in classical Adirondack is outdoor furnishings built from polymer "lumber" that is literally made out of plastic recycled packaging, milk jugs, and such. This is not only an environmentally responsible way to invest in furniture, but you have advantages with longevity, durableness, easy care, and colors won't pale as the pigment is mixed through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors added for protection.
